Public Works to issue bids for landfill gas system and seek concessionaire for county shooting range

Public Works Director Sean Roehrig told the Board of Commissioners on July 1 that two procurement items would be presented for board action: a call for bids to install a long-term gas extraction system at the county headquarters landfill and an RFP for a concessionaire to operate the Kells County Public Shooting Range.
Roehrig described the landfill project as the GCCS (gas collection and control system), commonly implemented with vertical wells and associated infrastructure; the current solicitation covers approximately 20 wells and related systems. "These are also known as vertical wells. It's the long term gas extraction system for the landfill," Roehrig said. The item will be presented as a call for bids at the upcoming meeting.
He also said the county will issue an RFP for a concessionaire to operate the shooting range and expects public interest in the solicitation. No contract awards were presented during the July 1 discussion; Roehrig said both items would appear on the next agenda for board consideration.
No discussion of funding sources or contract amounts occurred during the briefing; commissioners posed no substantive objections and the department indicated it would proceed with the procurement timeline.
