Public works to seek bids for landfill gas system and shooting-range concessionaire

Sean Early, public works, told commissioners the department will present two agenda items for the next meeting: a call for bids for a landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS) at the county headquarters landfill and an RFP for a concessionary agreement at the Kells County Public Shooting Range. "These are also known as vertical wells. It's the long term gas extraction system for the landfill, and this is for approximately 20 of them and all the infrastructure that goes with those," Early said.
Why it matters: a GCCS project is a long-term infrastructure investment for landfill gas management, collection and control; the concessionaire RFP could change who operates services at the public shooting range. Early said the county hopes for robust public response to the concessionaire RFP.
Next steps: both items will be presented for board action at the next meeting; public works staff did not request an immediate decision at this briefing. The county will accept bids or proposals through the procurement process listed in the upcoming agenda items.
