Mayfield Heights council on Aug. 4 approved Resolution 2025-41 authorizing a contract with a vendor to purchase access cameras at four intersections, a purchase tied to a state grant the police department received in June.
Chief Mealy (identified in the meeting memo) told council the cameras are part of a grant approved June 23, 2025; the department will buy the equipment but the grant does not cover some electrical installation work required. “There will be electrical work needed to install the cameras that were not covered by the grant,” the chief said in the meeting materials distributed to council.
Why it matters: the cameras are intended to support traffic enforcement and public safety; council authorized purchase and noted the city will absorb electrical-installation costs not reimbursed by the grant.
Council action: the motion to suspend the rules was moved by Councilmember Civetta and seconded; the purchase resolution was moved and seconded and adopted by roll-call vote. The transcript records the council approving the purchase without additional amendment.
