Fuquay-Varina’s Town Board on Aug. 4 authorized staff to proceed with soliciting construction bids for the Fuquay Avenue and Raleigh Street ADA Roadway Improvements Project, a downtown pedestrian-safety effort.
Engineering staff said the project focuses on cost-effective, targeted pedestrian improvements — curb ramps, crosswalks and other ADA-compliant elements — that emerged from the downtown master plan and the town board retreat as a priority. The project was not included in the FY 2025–26 budget; staff proposed funding the approximate $200,000 cost with Powell Bill fund balance. Once bids are received, town staff will return to the board with a recommended contract and any required budget and project-ordinance amendments.
Board members emphasized the project’s importance to downtown accessibility and the nearby Fuquay-Varina Arts Center. The motion to approve solicitation of bids carried by voice vote.
