Highway department starts third round of mowing, outlines road and intersection projects

The department's backhoe crew replaced culverts and assisted FEMA projects; the bridge crew did tree pickup and cross-pipe work; patch crews tied in driveways and potholes; and several sidewalk repairs are underway.

Details: The highway report included work on Outlaw Road, Dunbar Cave Bridal, Batson Road (a FEMA project), Cooper Creek Road, and cornice/sidewalk heat-buckling repairs. The department reported 82 work orders in July with 111 completed (including rollovers). Open positions include five operator 1 jobs, one operator 3 and two laborer positions. Current projects noted: Charles Bell Road right-of-way acquisitions; Dunlop and Rollo Lane intersection curbing; design requests for Old Highway 48 intersection; Highway 12 at Excel Road potential signalization; Excel Road improvements are in design; Arkadelphia Road survey underway; Greenway Jerrell Ridge Road clearing for a mile-long trail; and construction progress at the new highway department building.
What’s next: crews will continue mowing, road repairs and project design work; the department is hiring to fill open positions and expects to deploy new equipment and a paint truck and GPS sign inventories soon.
