Airport authority reports runway repairs nearly complete, parking-lot and overlay projects move forward

The Montgomery County Airport Authority reported on July 23 that surface repairs to Runway 35 are nearly complete and that design and procurement work is underway for several airport projects, an update delivered to county commissioners during the Aug. 4 meeting.

Commissioner Gilat, the county’s airport liaison, said the runway surface-failure repair project is effectively finished and the runway is operational while final painting remains pending. The authority also reported design work on a terminal parking-lot project with a grant executed and a design-through-bid phase active.

Details: Commissioner Gilat reported that fuel sales are up 56% in the quarter, totaling $20,920 for the reporting period and $134,148 year-to-date. The airport overlay-district project is being updated to comply with Title 14 CFR Part 77; GMC Engineering is preparing an overlay map and the project bid for construction through Rogers Group is $772,497.57 with expected bill funding in October. The Airport Layout Plan (ALP) amendment was approved by vote at the authority meeting with a project allocation of $268,500. The apron project passed a vote for a project total of $43,000 with a grant amount of $41,925 and an airport share of $1,075. A terminal parking lot budget allocation reflected a total about $58,000 with a grant amount of $55,100 and an airport share of $2,900.

Process and next steps: the authority approved budget allocations and amendments at its meeting; county staff will proceed through bidding and construction phases where applicable and will finance local shares as allocated.
