Council agrees to include copier fleet replacement in next year’s budget

Morgan County staff told the council Aug. 4 that the county’s copier fleet has passed its service life and that a vendor has offered a special one‑time pricing window to replace roughly 50 machines for a one‑time purchase covering service for five years.
The staff presentation said outright purchase estimates ranged from about $149,000 to $160,000 depending on buyback and pricing; the presenter said the lower price reflected a buyback arrangement and special pricing the county might accept. The cost would be paid from next year’s budget, not current operating funds, and the county would commit now to obtain the discount.
Chip Keller moved to approve including the purchase in the next fiscal year’s budget; Troy Sprinkle seconded. The motion passed 6‑0.
Staff said the contract would include service, supplies and lower click‑rates and that the purchase would be a one‑time payment covering the next five years. Council members said they favored moving forward and asked staff to execute the contract so the vendor could prepare for next year’s replacement.
