Oviedo recognizes officers for armed threat arrest, counterfeit operation and crash rescue

Oviedo — The Oviedo City Council on Aug. 4 recognized local police officers for three separate incidents that city staff said illustrated rapid response and interagency coordination. Police leadership told council the first citation stemmed from a 911 call reporting a person threatened with a firearm; officers used license-plate reader checks and other investigative tools to locate and arrest the suspect. A second recognition covered a multi‑store counterfeit‑currency series that led to multiple arrests. The third award honored officers who responded to a head‑on crash in which a vehicle caught fire; officers helped extract an occupant, started CPR and assisted with emergency medical response. The police chief described the crash response as officers who “jumped into action, didn’t hesitate, didn’t didn’t wait. And, we’re able to get the person out of the car, start CPR…” and said department leaders will combine quarterly recognitions and later select officer and employee of the year at the end of the year. Council members thanked both the police and fire departments and staff who publicized the recognitions. Council acknowledged Lisa McDonald for the department’s public recognition efforts.
