Mayor Nancy Backus and the Auburn City Council on Aug. 4 presented a proclamation recognizing WellPoint Washington and David Esquimay for their contributions to local health initiatives.
The proclamation, read at the start of the council meeting, cited nine years of sponsorship of the Blue Ribbon Committee for Healthy Auburn for Life and listed programs supported by WellPoint, including a breastfeeding campaign with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, enrollment outreach for the Marshallese community, the city’s “Beating Diabetes Together” event, the Healthy Bite of Auburn promotion and a citywide mental-wellness project funded in part by a $20,000 WellPoint grant beginning in June 2024.
Pat Bailey, introduced by the mayor as representing the city, described WellPoint’s partnership with the city as long-standing and collaborative. Lisa Bogard, identified as plan president for WellPoint Washington, accepted the plaque and said she was “honored” to receive the award on behalf of WellPoint. David Esquimay, identified as director of marketing and community outreach, also received a plaque for his work with the Blue Ribbon Committee.
The council’s proclamation declared Aug. 4, 2025, as “WellPoint and David Esquimay appreciation day” in Auburn and thanked the company and Esquimay for their “persistence and commitment to making Healthy Auburn for life.”
This item was presented as a ceremonial proclamation; no council action or vote on policy followed during the meeting.
