At its Aug. 4 meeting the Slanko School District Board approved a request from the high-school football program to use a high-school cafeteria, classroom and shower facilities overnight during the team’s multi-day camp beginning Sunday, Aug. 10.
The staff report said the team will stay in the building overnight during the camp period and that the team has used district facilities in this manner for 11 years. Board members discussed the logistics briefly and approved the request by voice vote.
Why it matters: the approval allows the program to continue a longstanding practice of overnight stays at the school during multi-day camps and clarifies temporary access to facilities including showers and classroom space.
Details: staff noted meals are provided and that students sleep on air mattresses in the cafeteria during the camp. No extraordinary conditions or additional staff requirements were attached to the board’s approval.
Next steps: the football program will proceed with the planned camp using district facilities on the approved date(s).
