Young County keeps vehicle registration fees unchanged for 2026, declines additional child-safety fee

The Young County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to maintain its current county vehicle registration fees for 2026 and not to add an optional $1.50 child-safety fee.
County staff reviewed the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles options the court may adopt each year. The court may impose a county road-and-bridge fee not to exceed $10 and an optional child-safety fee not to exceed $1.50; another $10 fee is restricted to several large counties and is not applicable to Young County.
Commissioners discussed how peer counties of similar size generally handle the fees and noted that nearby counties of comparable size were not charging the $1.50 child-safety fee. One commissioner said that when he reviewed July 28 records, the county had collected roughly $100,167 in road-and-bridge fee revenue year to date.
Commissioner Veil moved to keep the current fee structure; Commissioner Shook seconded the motion. The court voted 5–0 to continue the same charges for 2026.
