LaSalle County approves multiple cemetery trustee reappointments, names drainage district commissioners

The committee likewise reappointed Verland Rinker, Kurt Bedai (listed in the resolution with variant spellings in the transcript) and Eugene Rinker Jr. to the Grand Rapids Cemetery trustee terms beginning May 31, 2024 and ending May 31, 2030, each approved by voice vote.
On drainage matters, the committee approved a resolution appointing Scott Tufty to replace Gary Tufty as commissioner for Drainage District No. 1 of the town of Freedom for a three-year term expiring Aug. 13, 2028. The committee also approved a resolution appointing Mark Setchel to replace Gary Setchel as commissioner for the same drainage district for a three-year term expiring Aug. 13, 2028.
A committee member asked whether bond or filing requirements apply to drainage district treasurers because drainage districts have taxing authority. Committee members and staff said they were not certain on the spot and that, if bonding is required where money is involved, the district would need to comply and file the appropriate documentation. The transcript showed no immediate follow-up action to change the resolutions based on that question.
All six appointment and reappointment resolutions were approved by voice vote with committee members signifying approval by saying “aye” and the chairman declaring the motions carried. The transcript does not record a roll-call vote tally for any of these items.
