The charges were presented as unit and quarterly amounts during the meeting and adopted by roll‑call vote.
Commission discussion referenced the city's two service areas: approximately half of Kentwood is served by Grand Rapids water and half by the city of Wyoming. The presenter noted Wyoming is required to install an additional transmission main and that the city's prior rates had been lower on the Wyoming side; the adopted increases bring rates closer to parity with the Grand Rapids side and effectively return rates to near 2021 levels. The presenter said: "Wyoming is being required to put in a third transmission lane of pipe, and our the cost are just are going up." The commission said the change followed more than an hour of prior discussion at committee meetings.
The resolution passed on a roll‑call vote with commissioners recorded as voting yes. The commission directed staff to implement the adopted rates and to communicate impacts to residents in both service areas.
