Commission Authorizes $20,625 Parking Lot Maintenance for City Hall and Library

The Kentwood City Commission on June 3 authorized the mayor to enter into an agreement with Ricky Asphalt Maintenance LLC for parking lot maintenance at City Hall and the Kentwood Richard Root Library, approving $20,625 including a 10% contingency from the FY 2025 general fund operating budgets.

Chad Sather, parks and grounds supervisor, told the commission the work will include wedging (localized asphalt replacement), overbanding where appropriate, seal coating, and restriping. He said contractors will address failed asphalt through cutting and replacement rather than relying only on overbanding: "We're going to do some wedging, making sure that we're not going to try to use over banding to take care of failed asphalt." The staff recommendation seeks to schedule work concurrently at both locations to minimize disruption.

Commissioners confirmed line repainting and parking‑area repairs are included; Chad said re‑striping and a specific repair at the rear entrance would be addressed under the contract. The commission approved the contract authorization by voice vote and directed staff to coordinate timing to limit interference with holiday and public use schedules.
