Members of the LebanonPA250 committee briefed county commissioners on progress toward the county's 250th anniversary celebration and requested continued public and municipal engagement.
Bonnie Voye, chair of the committee, described four pillars of the celebration ' education, preserve, innovate and celebrate ' and outlined programs under each. The education pillar will include a countywide school art contest for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, culminating at an expo on July 4, 2026. The preservation pillar will feature historical demonstrations and vendor exhibits; the military committee said items from Indiantown Gap and other historical artifacts are expected for display.
Committee members discussed a large mosaic project and a community-made Lebanon 250 quilt that will be hand-quilted at upcoming public events, including the county fair. Organizers said mosaic pieces will be accepted through a July 29 open meeting at 4 p.m. and encouraged broad public participation. The quilt and mosaic are intended for display at the Expo Center and may be raffled or auctioned to raise funds for programming.
For the 2026 fireworks, organizers said the display will move to the Expo Center for one year only, with a rain date of July 5, 2026. Sponsorships have been selling at multiple levels (from small donors to a $1,776 tier tied to the 1776 theme). Officials said Lebanon Federal Credit Union donated $10,000 and another foundation provided $20,100 toward the mosaic and other activities; banners with sponsors' names will run on Cumberland Street from January through October 2026.
The committee has launched lebanonpa250.com with sponsorship details, a history blog and social media links. Committee members asked municipalities to coordinate but said they cannot require boroughs or townships to change independently scheduled local celebrations; they asked local governments to consider alternate dates to avoid competing events.
Commissioners thanked the committee and encouraged outreach to increase participation. Committee members said they will staff a booth at the county fair and continue municipal outreach over the coming months.
