Mayor Dennis Hanwell and city officials presented proclamations and certificates Friday to welcome Dr. Christine Scordellis and her new practice, Medina Dental Corporation, to downtown Medina. The city, the Medina County commissioners, the Ohio Senate and a representative of U.S. Rep. Max Miller’s office provided ceremonial documents at the ribbon-cutting.
The welcome reflects the city’s longstanding Healthy Medina program, which celebrates businesses that contribute to local health initiatives. “We want everybody to have a happy, healthy smile,” Kimberly Marshall, economic development director for the city of Medina, said during the event.
Hanwell read a city proclamation recognizing the office for “helping patients achieve their best smiles” and presented a signed certificate on behalf of the Medina City Council and mayor’s office. Certificates of congratulations were delivered on behalf of the Medina County commissioners and from the Ohio Senate, signed by Senator Mark Romanchuk and the president of the Ohio Senate, Robert McCauley; a certificate from U.S. Rep. Max Miller’s office was handed to the practice by Ray Paletta, who represented the congressman at the ceremony.
Dr. Christine Scordellis, the practice owner, described her background and the services she plans to offer in Medina. “It’s very tailored to each specific patient using the most innovative technologies and also digital dentistry,” she said, adding that the office will offer “gentle cleanings with airflow technology and all of the same day dentistry…including all the way up to 3-D printing.” Scordellis said she expects to add “maybe five” additional staff as the office grows.
City staff said Medina Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Medina collaborated on the ribbon-cutting; the chamber’s executive director Jacqueline Reinsmeyer was not present and Stephanie Mueller attended for the chamber, and George, executive director for Main Street Medina, joined the remarks. Jared Fry of Medina TV will supply video of the event and the city’s marketing director, Barbara, will provide still photos for the practice.
The presentation was ceremonial: no ordinance, resolution, motion or vote was recorded at the event. The mayor and others encouraged residents to visit the new office and take advantage of the dental services offered.
The ribbon-cutting concluded with the formal presentation of documents and a brief photo opportunity on the square.
