District officials announced that routine maintenance at Valley Forge High School revealed excessive peeling of wax that has rendered the gym floor unusable for competitive purposes.
"We were doing some routine maintenance at Valley Forge High School, and there was some excessive, peeling of wax off of the gym floor. And so the gym floor has been deemed unusable for competitive purposes," Doctor Hunt, the district superintendent, said. He told the board the district is working with vendors to repair the floor and will repair it before allowing students and staff to return for activities.
The superintendent said the closure will affect some volleyball matches and that district staff are working to find alternative locations for those competitions. No timeline for the repairs or a cost estimate was provided during the meeting.
Why it matters: A damaged gym floor disrupts athletic schedules and may require short-term relocation of events and additional district expenditures for repair. The superintendent’s remarks were presented as a staff communication item rather than as a formal action requiring immediate board approval.
Details not specified: The district did not state the anticipated repair completion date, the vendor selected, or an estimated repair cost. The superintendent said staff would keep the board posted as they work with vendors.
