Mission Fire Department staff members said the department operates four mobile intensive care unit ambulances and expects two additional ambulances to arrive in August to help ease maintenance and response pressures.
A Mission Fire Department staff member described routine equipment checks, saying, “Here at Mission Fire Department, every morning, we do our checks all the time, making sure we have all our equipment.” The staff member said missing equipment can “put us in a real bad bind.”
An EMS crew member described the busiest unit, medic 2, and average daily call volume: “This is the busiest truck. ... On average with, medic 2, we respond to about 10 to 11 calls a day at least.” The crew member said the department has four MICU ambulances and that two more ambulances are scheduled to arrive in August, which staff said should help when other ambulances are undergoing maintenance.
Staff explained the role of a MICU ambulance: “The mobile intensive care unit that we carry is pretty much a mobile ER until we can get you stabilized and get you to the hospital at the right time.” They listed common call types, including stomach pain, cardiac arrest, hypoglycemic episodes and blood-pressure checks, and said crews also perform nonemergency vital checks when requested.
Officials noted cross-training and backup care: when ambulances are unavailable, engine crews can provide patient care. Staff emphasized customer service and local ties, saying the department aims to “be better than the day we were before” and that many crew members have family in the community.
No formal actions, funding details, or timelines beyond the reported August arrival were provided during the remarks.
