Cheyenne council adopts ordinance updating firearms rules to align with new state laws

The Cheyenne City Council on Aug. 4 approved on third and final reading ordinance changes that amend and repeal multiple sections of Chapter 9.24 (weapons) of the municipal code to align city rules on sale, transport, discharge and possession of firearms with recent state law changes. Council leaders said the amendments are intended to avoid duplication with state and federal law after new laws took effect July 1. The Public Services Committee recommended approval on third reading; the motion was moved by Councilman Seagrave and seconded by Dr. Aldridge. The clerk called the roll and the ordinance passed on third and final reading. There was no public comment at the hearing. Council members provided no additional amendments or debate during third reading.
