The Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board approved a modification to the 2025-26 school calendar so students will not be in school on the tentative special primary election date of Tuesday, Oct. 7.
District staff told the board that the Montgomery County Election Commission uses 21 of the district's schools as polling locations and that having students in school on election days raises safety, security and logistical concerns. The staff presentation said the district would move a previously scheduled professional development day (Wednesday, Sept. 24) so teachers would have in-service on Tuesday, Oct. 7, while students would be out of school for the election.
The calendar change was described as addressing the first tentative primary date; staff said other potential adjustments tied to tentative December and May 5 dates could come back to the board. When asked what would happen if the election date changes, staff said the board would likely revisit the calendar the next month if needed; staff also said they expected definitive information about the election date within the week.
A motion to approve the calendar change was made and seconded on the record; the board approved the adjustment by a 6-0 vote.
