Village public works staff told trustees on July 28 that the municipal sewer jetter truck — used to clear sewer mains — experienced a high‑pressure pump failure. The truck was taken to a specialist shop for diagnosis.
The shop reported the routed/hydraulic pump needs a rebuild at an estimated cost of $18,332.50. Because the vehicle was already at the vendor and some components are aged, staff also recommended a further maintenance package that would include new steering tires, hoses and routine items while the truck is out of service. The broader package brought the projected work total to approximately $21,000, though staff noted some line items could be removed to lower cost.
Board action and rationale
Trustees approved the emergency pump rebuild and the recommended maintenance while the vehicle is at the vendor to reduce future downtime. Staff said a full replacement truck would cost in the high hundreds of thousands of dollars and that maintaining the current vehicle is more cost‑effective. The work will be charged to the sewer utility operating fund.
Operational impact
Public Works noted that if the jetter truck were out of service for an extended period, the village’s ability to respond to sanitary sewer blockages would be reduced; rapid repair preserves operational capacity. The vendor is expected to complete the rebuild and return the truck to service in short order.
Follow up
Staff will proceed with the vendor work, return invoices and report completion of the repair to trustees.
