At its July 29 meeting the Yakima School Board approved a facilities and compliance package including a contract to audit district buildings for compliance with Washington’s Clean Buildings Act, and accepted final completion of two capital projects.
The board approved awarding the Clean Buildings Act tier 1 and tier 2 audit work to McKinstry for approximately $689,000, with district staff noting the expense will be reimbursed through a Department of Commerce grant. The motion carried on voice vote.
The board also voted to accept final completion of the Discovery Early Learning modular addition, a project that added about 12,376 square feet including six classrooms, a commercial kitchen and expanded restrooms. The board then voted to accept final completion of the Davis High School auditorium modernization project; trustees and attendees described the auditorium upgrade as a long-awaited community improvement.
Administratively, the board approved a lengthy consent agenda that included minutes, warrants, personnel actions, budget status reports for June 2025, interlocal agreements, designation of auditing and investment officers, authorized signatories, and purchase authorizations for food and produce suppliers for the national school breakfast and lunch programs. The motion to approve the consent agenda passed unanimously by voice vote.
In governance business the board approved monitoring and evaluation materials related to the superintendent, including ratings and compliance confirmation for several executive-limitations and governance policies (global executive constraint, financial conditions and activities, accountability of the superintendent, delegation to the superintendent, and monitoring of superintendent performance). Board members voted to accept the surveys and ratings as submitted.
Ending: District staff said the McKinstry audit cost is expected to be reimbursed by the state Department of Commerce; final change orders and project closeout paperwork will be completed for the two accepted capital projects.
