Starr County Commissioners Court on Monday approved a budgeted $8,000 contribution to Hope Health Center in McAllen to support free medical services for uninsured residents of Starr County.

The court noted the county provided the same contribution last year and that the center’s services include free doctor visits and medications for people without insurance. The judge explained the center is located in McAllen but serves residents from Starr County.

The motion to approve passed with a second and a voice vote. No additional conditions or restrictions on the funds were specified during the presentation.

Separately, the court scheduled a public hearing for Aug. 5 concerning a related TDHCA program application (see related agenda item) but took no other funding actions Monday.
