County commissioners approved several design-phase contracts from Design Collaborative and other firms to advance ADA compliance and a conceptual county parking garage.
The design contracts approved include: an exterior ADA access upgrade package for multiple sites (schematic design through construction administration) for $51,000; accessible bathroom renovations at the county work-release center (schematic design through construction administration) for $68,000; a conceptual feasibility design for lower-level courthouse ADA restrooms for $2,900; and a conceptual design package for a county parking garage (architectural, MEP, civil and structural) for $57,000. Commissioners also approved a boundary retracement/topography and utility survey by Foresight for $13,200 and geotechnical soil testing by GME Testing for $7,500.
County staff emphasized these are design-phase fees only; construction costs will be estimated after design and bidding. The work-release restroom design was described as producing plans that could be reused if additional ADA restroom work is later needed. The parking garage study will inform how many parking spaces the site can accommodate; staff said initial needs assessments suggest roughly 150–200 spaces, but final capacity will be determined by the conceptual design and subsequent site work.
Each item was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners and staff noted the goal of moving multiple county facilities toward ADA compliance and obtaining the design information needed to estimate construction budgets and timelines.
