Commission staff provided two operational updates: sidewalk repairs around county facilities and the status of a salt barn constructed by County Highway.
On sidewalks, staff said several cracked concrete areas were replaced and that, once grass establishes, crews will clean the pavers and re-sand them to finish the work. Staff noted a second grass‑establishment attempt had mixed results and that contractors had not followed directions fully on a second try; staff said they will monitor final appearance and any further work needed.
On the salt barn, staff said Howard County has paid its agreed share of roughly $1 million toward construction with County Highway, and that the county’s portion of work (including grading around the base) remained to be finished by County Highway. Staff reported the brine tank and roof work were complete and that quarterly inspections showed the structure is otherwise in satisfactory condition.
Neither item required formal action by the commission at the meeting; staff presented these as informational updates.
