At the July 29, 2025 Village of Khamsin Hill meeting, Chief Levand delivered the monthly police report, saying the department handled 476 calls for service, 20 accidents, 137 citations and three arrests, one of which was a felony.
Chief Levand described a recent single-motorcycle crash on Route 47 between Burlington and the McDonald’s that required closing the road to allow a medical helicopter to land. He said the crash involved only the motorcycle; the patient sustained internal injuries but had undergone surgery and was expected to survive.
The chief said detectives have been working on an active death investigation and that the department will assist with traffic control for a motorcycle-ride fundraiser that will enter the village twice on its route. He noted the department’s preparations for the upcoming school year beginning Aug. 13, which will increase traffic in areas including Fox Mill and Glasgow.
On neighborhood concerns, the chief said the department has responded to multiple complaints about golf-cart use in the Fox Mill subdivision. He said officers have performed inspections to verify registration, insurance and required safety equipment and will take enforcement action if operations become unsafe. The chief said he is “working with village attorney Forte on an ordinance addressing complaints and concerns about low speed of record bikes and scooters,” and that the village is preparing educational materials to be distributed to residents.
Chief Levand acknowledged assistance from village attorneys and community volunteers during recent operations and projects, and thanked local volunteers for helping resolve malfunctioning audiovisual equipment used for training. He also credited staff who helped with an unusually long towing-contract RFP process.
The chief announced National Night Out will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fox Mill Church. He said the event will include more than 40 vendors, eight first-responder agencies, a helicopter landing, a magician, a petting zoo, food vendors and a raffle for a drone; he said more than 3,000 people attended last year. The department also will help manage a “touch-a-truck” display with Camden Township Highway Department vehicles on site.
No formal motions or votes were recorded in the transcript for the police report. The items in the chief’s report were presented for trustees’ information and for staff follow-up where noted.
