The Boone County Board on July 31 approved a special use permit (ordinance 25-12) to legalize commercial boarding of horses at 108777 Harnish Road. County staff said the zoning board of appeals adopted staffs findings and recommended approval 5–0 with four conditions.

Staff said the new owner sought the permit to bring the existing boarding operation into compliance. The owner told the board he has run the boarding operation for 21 years. Board members who reviewed the file said they had examined the six factors required by the county code (section 2.73) and found the proposal met those criteria.

With the board vote, the operation can proceed under the conditions listed by staff and ZBA; county staff will ensure compliance with any permit conditions going forward.
