The district superintendent presented a back-to-school update at the July 31 special meeting, listing community events, student supports and operational reminders for families ahead of the school year. The presentation encouraged family participation in several district-hosted events and stressed transportation readiness. Superintendent Miss Peterson highlighted district participation in National Night Out events on Tuesday, Oct. 5, with district FACE team representation at Christie Babcock Park (New Windsor), Broadway in the city of Newburgh between Johnson and Liberty, and Cromer Park in the town of Newburgh. The superintendent also promoted a School is Cool backpack and school celebration on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 124 Grand Street Board of Education complex and a Jump Start Jamboree for incoming Pre-K and kindergarten students on Aug. 20 from 5–7 p.m. at Gidney Avenue. The superintendent stressed transportation readiness, asking families to use the district website's "Update Your Address" form to avoid bus-stop delays and to submit alternative bus-stop requests to the transportation department. She also encouraged parents and guardians to complete a posted survey to express interest in serving on interview committees during hiring. Additional details in the update included dates for senior portraits sign-ups and the start of fall athletics, and a note that the district's swim program and an August graduation for the class of 2025 would be featured in upcoming communications. The superintendent closed by saying the district's goal is to ensure every child and family feels welcome and supported for the start of the new school year.
