District facilities staff updated trustees on construction progress at the new Campbell County aquatic center and said key finishes and a contractor remediation have delayed final completion beyond the original August schedule.
Facilities staff said parking-lot concrete and landscaping work are underway, tile work on the deck has started, and crew members will begin a pool water test and curing period; staff reported the contractor over-applied shotcrete on the pool’s west wall by about a half-inch, which required removal and reinstallation of that wall section.
The district said the contractor''s work on the pool shell and finishes will likely continue into October and that staff is reviewing the schedule and possible contract remedies, including assessing liquidated damages, while emphasizing that they will not accept lower-quality work to meet an earlier opening date.
Facilities staff added that some adjustments to the operating start and irrigation schedule were unavoidable because of contractor availability and the need to coordinate subcontractors; staff will share an updated schedule with trustees when it is final.
Separately, trustees were told the aquatic center operating budget is slated to increase in the recreation district budget to reflect the new facility and expected overlap in utilities and services during the start-up period.
