Chad Simpson, cofounder and administrative director of Secret Garden and production lead for Badger Basecamp, addressed the board during public comment on July 2 to respond to earlier neighbors’ concerns about sound propagation at the event.
Simpson, who identified himself as a working physical scientist and stated he holds emergency management and safety certifications, said the production team is “actively investigating the best ways to modulate audio output based on real time wind and weather data” and has begun implementing directional speaker setups and monitoring systems on site. He said the organizers are applying industry-standard safety planning, risk assessment and incident-response tools at Badger Basecamp and offered to share scholarly references and monitoring data with county staff.
Simpson told the board he would provide the requested technical information to county planning staff, and county staff indicated they would accept the materials. No formal county action followed the public comment.
Simpson’s comments were made during the meeting’s public-comment period; he answered a request from county planning staff to share materials and said he would coordinate with staff to deliver them.
