County approves Ohio DOT detour on State Road 111 for short culvert project

Allen County commissioners on June 6 approved an official detour requested by the Ohio Department of Transportation on State Road 111 between North State Line Road and County Road 11, a county highway representative said.

A highway department representative described the detour as roughly a one-mile to 1.5-mile stretch north of U.S. Highway 24 that will be used while a culvert project is completed. "The culvert project starts, hopefully July 1 and I think it only goes for about a month," the representative said. "We don't feel like this is gonna change things very much."

When asked whether the detour would cost Allen County taxpayers, the representative said the county should not incur costs and that Ohio will work with the county to reimburse repairs if the detour traffic causes damage. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the detour by voice vote.

The item was presented as a routine intergovernmental coordination matter; staff said the route primarily provides access to U.S. 24 and that county maintenance will film the road before work to document condition for potential reimbursement.
