Several residents used the public‑comment period at the June 27 Allen County Commissioners meeting to ask the board to reject large‑scale commercial solar developments proposed in parts of eastern Allen County.
Ron Klein, a resident of Paulding Road, said he was concerned that large solar fields near critical electrical infrastructure could become targets in a larger international conflict and asked the board to stop or limit such projects. "If they would attack The United States, they're gonna hit our infrastructure," Klein said, adding he worried about the proximity of substations and large facilities to proposed solar arrays.
Lori Cline, also of Paulding Road, urged the board to reject large solar development on environmental grounds. "The clearing of large areas of land for solar will adversely affect native vegetation and wildlife in many ways, including destroying habitats, interference with rainfall, and drainage," she said, adding that she and her husband regularly observe bald eagles and deer on nearby fields and woods slated for development.
Denny Stursenberger offered the group's assistance to commissioners for factual research and recommended considering unambiguous zoning language (he cited setbacks) to avoid administrative adjustments through variances or appeals.
The commissioners listened during the public‑comment period but did not take immediate action on zoning or permitting policy; the comments were recorded as public input only.
