District curriculum staff reported that the district has secured additional agreements with Suffolk County Community College and Farmingdale State College to expand dual‑enrollment opportunities. Christina Poppy and other curriculum leaders said approvals were still arriving in June and July and that, by the meeting, 13 additional courses had been added to the district’s list of college‑credit offerings.
The district said the expanded offerings add to an existing program of 28 dual‑enrollment courses, bringing the potential total to 41 courses for which a student could seek college credit while enrolled in the corresponding high‑school class. The new approvals include subjects not previously available for dual credit, such as certain art and music courses, the administration said.
The board and curriculum staff discussed the Beacon program and specifically noted that English 12 Honors was accepted for college credit through Suffolk County Community College; students enrolled in the honors course may opt to purchase college credit after successfully completing the class.
Curriculum staff said minor syllabus adjustments and curriculum writing were required to ensure alignment with college requirements, but emphasized the classroom experience will remain largely the same. Staff said they will notify families—via open house and parent communications—about opportunities and the option to enroll for college credit.
No board vote was required; staff will present a list of newly approved courses to the board at a future meeting.
