Mendon asks Rutland to coordinate on Town Line Road speeding; Mendon plans sign, requests patrol coordination

Mendon Select Board member Megan Smith told Rutland officials that residents on Town Line Road are reporting persistent speeding and that Mendon has purchased a flashing speed display that shows drivers' speeds. Smith said Mendon will install a permanent sign in its right of way near a hill where drivers often accelerate and has bought two additional signs with ARPA funds to place elsewhere if state rules allow.
Smith said both the outgoing and incoming Mendon sheriff's assignments have told her enforcement is difficult because there are few safe pull-over spots for traffic stops. She asked Rutland to consider coordinating use of Rutland Town's mobile speed cart and to consider purchasing a permanent speed display in a future budget if the Mendon sign appears to slow traffic. Smith also said she would track down the state speed study contact, Ian Dentis, and report back; Mendon had not yet received the state study setup as of the meeting.
No formal board action was taken; members agreed to note the request for coordination and to consider Patrol and equipment budgeting during their next budget cycle.
