President William Iannuzzi presented the existing committee slate and clarified which bodies are district‑led (administration-chaired) and which are board‑led. District-led groups described at the meeting include the Protect team (formerly SAFE; meets first Thursday at 10 a.m.), the Rescue committee (health and safety; meets one Wednesday a month at 2 p.m.) and the Green Schools Committee. Board-led committees include the policy committee (which will work this year with NISBA to update the district policy book), a finance committee (oversees budget planning and monthly treasury reports) and the Westchester-Putnam School Boards Association liaison role. The BOCES liaison position was noted as inactive for about two years and was set aside.
Iannuzzi proposed two additional working groups for the board’s consideration: an ad hoc board operating procedures committee to update procedures adopted in 2017, and a small special-education committee to review due-process complaints in advance of executive session so the full board could receive a recommendation. Several trustees volunteered interest in specific committees: Don Vega and others expressed interest in special education; Makeda Lewis expressed interest in finance and policy and said she would consider chairing policy; Sam Single said he wanted to serve again on finance; Gwen Clayton Fernandez and another trustee expressed interest in Protect and Green Schools; Valerie D. Williams noted the policy committee meets later in the evening and is accessible to working members. Members reminded the group that no more than four board members should serve on a board‑led committee to avoid creating a quorum for an open meeting.
No final committee appointments or votes were taken; the president said he would compile members’ preferences and bring resolutions for committee assignments to the board’s second July meeting.
