Reynolds said the district celebrated 608 seniors at the high school commencement, held indoors this year at the Westchester County Center for safety and security reasons. "We celebrated 608 seniors who walked that stage that day," he said.
Reynolds provided outcome details the board heard: five students were named National Merit Scholarship finalists; five graduates were headed to Ivy League institutions (four to Cornell and one to the University of Pennsylvania); 14 students will attend other highly selective colleges listed by Reynolds; three will study abroad; eight will enter careers or trades; nine will join the military; 38 graduates will enter the workforce; and 490 students are expected to attend college in September. He added that 212 graduates finished with GPAs of 3.75 or higher and 42 students received honors diplomas. Departments and local donors awarded students just under $146,000 in scholarships, Reynolds said, noting those scholarship figures reflect awards administered by the high school departments and local supporters.
Reynolds framed the results as evidence of the district’s academic offerings and noted that neighboring districts have sought tuition agreements to allow their students into New Rochelle courses. He also told the board the district is “on a trajectory for greatness” while acknowledging comparisons to past decades.
The board received the superintendent’s update as part of the organizational meeting; no action on graduation-related policy or budget items was taken at the session.
