New Rochelle Board swears in two members and unanimously elects William Iannuzzi president

The New Rochelle City School District Board of Education administered the oaths of office to two newly elected trustees and elected a slate of officers at its annual organizational meeting.

Ilana Jacob and Jessica Klein were sworn in as members of the board. Jacob was sworn in by her husband, Josh Rear; Klein was sworn in by the Hon. Michelle Bernstein. After the oath, Jacob said, “I just wanna thank the city of New Rochelle, the voters, this community, and my new board members…I'm very excited for this opportunity, and I'm looking forward to and humbled by the opportunity to serve this city.” Klein told the board she was “very excited. I'm very nervous. I'm very humbled, and looking forward to the next 5 years.”

The board then completed its officer elections. The membership voted unanimously to elect William Iannuzzi as board president; Makeda Lewis was elected first vice president and Roshani Ross was elected second vice president. The roll-call votes for the president’s election recorded “yes” votes from all members present at the vote, and the board president subsequently took over chairing the remainder of the meeting.

The board temporarily suspended Policy 1320 to permit the reorganizational actions at the start of the meeting; the motion carried on a voice/roll-call vote. The board also approved the consent agendas for general and personnel resolutions presented at the meeting by recorded vote.

The newly sworn trustees will serve terms that the oath documents show commencing July 1, 2025, and the board scheduled its next regular meeting for July 22 at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
