A precinct redistricting item that had been on the agenda was canceled for the day and rescheduled for next Monday at 1:30 p.m., and a public commenter who served on the advisory committee urged commissioners to approve the plan.
Katie, who identified herself as a member of the precinct committee, told the board she appreciated the county auditor’s decision to involve both major political parties in the process and thanked committee members for their work. “It was much needed and it's a very daunting thing to look at… we finally got there. And I'm just so glad that she, took the plunge to get it done,” Katie said. She also singled out staff member Matthew Shue for detailed work presented to the committee: “He… took what was unbelievably complicated and put so much work into presenting the committee with some really well thought out options for us to work with.”
A county staff member confirmed the precinct discussion had been postponed to next Monday at 1:30 p.m.; the auditor will present the proposed precinct map and the commissioners will consider it at that time. Katie said both parties worked together on the committee and that she expected the plan would pass, but she asked to hear the commissioners’ discussion.
The board did not take formal action on the redistricting item during the meeting; the matter remains scheduled for the rescheduled public session next Monday.
