County facilities staff provided updates on construction and maintenance across several county buildings, telling the Board of Commissioners about a credit on the morgue contract, HVAC system problems in a county complex, and near-complete grant applications for an agricultural building.
Mike Martin, representing the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, reported that a consent-agenda change order will formalize removing cabinetry from the morgue space, producing a credit of just over $16,000. He said the change will be on the consent agenda for formal approval.
Facilities staff described multiple failing HVAC units in a county building, noting that the building-management system is obsolete and that some compressors appear disconnected or nonfunctional. They said a Trane representative ordered replacement control boards that can allow the county to convert some units to conventional thermostats rather than the legacy controller to avoid a full replacement of the building management system. Staff plan to test compressors and replace only units that are irreparable; one daycare unit was identified as a likely immediate replacement candidate.
Staff said they are pursuing three bids for decommissioning and other work, including electrical and plumbing costs, and that the Department of Agriculture grant application for a 6,000-square-foot building is complete pending final pricing. Facilities staff also mentioned plans for shade cloth and other cooling measures at the jail yard and that some units will be isolated and tied to single thermostats to reduce expensive systemwide replacements.
No votes were recorded on these items at the meeting; staff said the morgue cabinetry credit and dispatch reimbursement contract are on the consent agenda for a future session.
