Grand County staff reported results of a countywide employee survey during the June 24 meeting; managers said the survey gathered 141 responses (about a 40% overall response rate) and identified both strengths and priority concerns.
Human Resources and managers presented the findings: 83% of respondents said they like working for Grand County (good or excellent). Strengths included meaningful public-service work, opportunities for on‑the‑job learning and generally positive supervisory interactions.
Priority concerns surfaced in written and scored responses: health-insurance understanding and coverage, compensation and clarity about the pay plan, retirement options and opportunities for professional development. Several employees — particularly newer staff — expressed uncertainty about benefits and pay. Presenters recommended practical next steps including more outreach from the county’s benefits broker (HUB), department-level conversations, on-site benefits presentations targeted to employees who do not regularly use county email, and a follow-up survey to track progress.
Commissioners praised the survey and asked staff to provide follow-through reports. County management said they will share the raw data with employees, develop communication and outreach strategies (including possible department-level benefits sessions) and consider regular pulse surveys.
