Sheena Dornley of the Grand County Housing Authority told commissioners the building’s original alarm system, installed in the 1980s, has been failing and generating false alarms. “The fire district has been very gracious and been putting up with this, it’s screeching alarm that it keeps setting off, because it’s just a faulty panel,” Dornley said. The Housing Authority and property manager had been seeking bids for about five and a half months, she said.
The Board of County Commissioners convened as the Housing Authority board for the item and voted to approve the VINET Operating Group contract and authorized the chair to sign all applicable documents. Dornley said the cost was unbudgeted but could be covered from operating account balances; no supplemental appropriation was requested.
Commissioners commented that a functioning alarm panel that would stop false alarms was needed for resident safety and to reduce fire‑department responses. The board approved the contract by voice vote and allowed staff to execute the agreement.
