County approves geotechnical testing contract for proposed Kremmling road and bridge shop

Grand County commissioners approved a services contract on Tuesday for preliminary geotechnical testing at the Kremmling site the county is considering for a new road and bridge shop.
County project manager Jeff Hickam presented the contract from BEST Engineering Solutions and Technologies for $7,600 to provide testing and recommendations on foundation type, surface drainage and backfill compaction. Hickam said the firm has headquarters in Denver and has completed projects in Summit and Grand counties.
Commissioners asked whether local references existed and were told the firm had performed work locally. The board approved the contract and authorized the chair to sign; staff said the testing had been budgeted but needed BOCC signature because it had been categorized in capital rather than professional services.
The testing will inform foundation design and site drainage decisions for the proposed shop and is an early step in site development.
