Gilpin County commissioners unanimously approved Resolution 25-076 June 10 authorizing a vehicle-lease agreement with Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) to provide bus transportation for the county’s summer camp field trips.
Parks and Recreation Director Gabriel Chisholm told the board BVSD will supply bus service this summer because the county does not have staff to provide transportation. The lease is budgeted at $2,400 and will be paid from the substance-abuse block grant and a $10 field-trip fee charged per camper.
Why it matters: the buses allow staff to increase camp capacity and keep counselors with children rather than driving, improving safety and program quality. Chisholm listed planned destinations including Bounce Empire, Denver Aquarium and Bear Creek Lake Park.
The agreement is time sensitive; Chisholm asked the board to approve and sign the lease so he could return an executed copy to BVSD before the district’s deadline. The motion to adopt Resolution 25-076 passed 3-0.
Looking ahead: Parks and Recreation staff will finalize the lease and proceed with planned field trips; commissioners asked staff to coordinate cancellation policies for inclement weather and to provide timely notice if trips are rescheduled.
