City staff reported the aquatic center’s boiler system has been repaired and is operational, and managers expect the pool to return to normal operating temperature (about 82–83 degrees) within several days.
City Administrator Cole told the council staff worked with contractors on “innovative repairs” and estimated the cost of repairs at about $4,000, significantly below an earlier estimate of $70,000 for full replacement. The city thanked contractors and local partners for assistance getting the pool open for the season.
Separately, the council approved placement of additional pool staff on the aquatic center wage scale. Staff recommended and the council approved the following placements at the lifeguard wage scale:
- Juliana Anderson — lifeguard step 1, $14.07 per hour
- Misha Pedraza Felix — lifeguard step 1, $14.07 per hour
- Diamond Roy — lifeguard step 1, $14.07 per hour
- Ella Hoffman — lifeguard step 3, $14.92 per hour (previously approved at a WSI wage but elected not to pursue WSI)
- Haley Ann Scapel — lifeguard step 4, $15.35 per hour (elected not to pursue WSI)
Alderman Gaiten moved approval of the hires; Alderman Allers seconded and the motion carried.
Discussion vs. decision
