Commission readies Key Summer Bash and summer events; vendors, food trucks and volunteers remain a focus

Recreation staff updated the commission May 21 on summer events planning, including the Key Summer Bash set for June 21, vendor recruitment and volunteer needs.
Staff said there are about 15 vendors committed so far, including emergency services and town departments. Organizers said they have had trouble securing food trucks and will continue outreach for two more weeks before deciding whether to provide in‑house concessions or pursue alternate options. The commission discussed options including asking community partners such as the Lions or Rotary for mobile food support.
Staff asked commissioners to sign up for volunteer shifts, noting roles such as cooking, running booths, manning a camera, and staffing game tents. They also discussed point‑of‑sale logistics and recommended offering a cash price (example $5) and a slightly higher credit‑card price (add $1) to cover processing fees. Staff reminded the commission of other upcoming events that need volunteer support—including Puzzlepalooza, the 5K poker run on Sept. 13, Rotary and the state meet in July and August—and urged members to register availability online via the department’s volunteer form.
No formal votes were required; staff will continue vendor and volunteer coordination and return to the commission with any unresolved logistics.
