The director said Peterborough budgets $25,000 a year in its CIP for pool maintenance and recommended Milford adopt the same approach. The goal is to avoid large, unplanned expenditures when resurfacing or other repairs are required; the director said $25,000 annually is a reasonable starting point given recent work on filters and resurfacing.
For bus replacement, the director proposed setting aside $15,000 per year over five years (approximately $75,000 total) to reduce the size of any single year’s appropriation. The director said a new bus is an expensive purchase and suggested a mix of town funding, sponsorships and revolving fund contributions rather than relying on one source.
Commissioners discussed the need to plan for other expensive items noted on the department’s project list, including field upgrades and the 1‑27 (ramp/bridge) project. No formal CIP vote occurred at the meeting; the director said she would bring proposed warrant language and CIP figures to the appropriate budgeting bodies.
