Representatives of the Granite Town Festivities Committee and the Milford Pumpkin Festival told the Board of Selectmen on July 14 that vendor slots are largely full, musical acts donate their time, and organizers have revised the one-mile race route for safety.
Wade Campbell, festival director, said Middle Street will be “packed” with vendors this year and vendors and performers have returned. Holly Bly, representing the Boys & Girls Club, described a revised one-mile route that will circle the club, cross Mount Vernon Street, proceed to Perkins, turn at the end and return, with police presence at crossings; the board signaled no objection provided police sign off.
Committee members asked whether a recently passed state law on social drinking districts would affect the festival’s beer garden on the community house lawn. Selectmen said the new statute will not affect this year’s event because any change would require a warrant article to change town rules, and current permissions remain in place for the ongoing year.
Organizers discussed financing: a primary sponsor and charitable casino funding help underwrite expenses; vendor fees were modestly increased this year and there is a waiting list for performers. The committee said they plan to participate in next year’s 250th-anniversary events and are discussing whether to seek a warrant article to fund fireworks for a larger celebration.
Selectmen thanked organizers and indicated staff will coordinate needed permits and police support.
