The Bedford Town Council on June 11 accepted a $1,785 donation from the Bedford Women’s Club to buy an accessible picnic table, benches, power tools and trail maintenance materials.
Town Manager Rick Sawyer told the council the grant funds would support similar trail projects to those shown in staff materials and thanked the Bedford Women’s Club for “their continued support of the trails efforts in the community.”
Councilor Bill Carter moved the motion under RSA 31:95-b to accept the donation and authorize expenditure of the same amount; Councilor Kathleen Bemis seconded. Chairwoman Laurie Radke called the vote and the motion passed 7-0.
The staff presentation noted that the picnic table identified in the materials includes an overhang so a person in a wheelchair can “go up to the side of the table,” meaning one end is wheelchair-accessible. The donation will also be used for general trail maintenance and bridge repairs as listed in the council packet.
The council thanked the donors and asked staff to proceed with purchasing and installation according to the plan in the agenda materials.
The council took no additional action on broader trail funding or policy at the meeting.
