Nagano artifacts moved to Clearwater Historical Society for display; city retains large items in city collection

Clearwater staff told the Sister Cities Advisory Board on Oct. 22 that many smaller items from the Nagano exchange collection have been moved from the closed library to the Clearwater Historical Society for display. Christopher Albert said larger objects, including kimonos and armor, remain in the city's collection until staff identifies an insured, climate-appropriate long-term space.
Albert confirmed the items at the historical society are on loan and remain owned and maintained by the city. Candy and Stephanie Schill (board member, Museum of Fine Arts staff) are working on exhibit plans; the board also discussed a proposed exterior Japanese garden at the historical society site, and several donors have offered items for display.
No transfer of ownership or permanent deaccession was discussed; the arrangement is a loan for display while staff and partners finalize housing and insurance for fragile objects.
