Glades County moves toward data‑driven road program, adds paving crew positions

A staff presenter told commissioners the county plans to use a nationwide contract to grade every paved road and develop an empirical, data‑driven paving and maintenance plan. "What that will do, it'll grade every section of paved road that we have in the county. It'll give us plans and optimal plans on how to pave and how to maintain and make data in the future," the staff member said.

As part of the budget proposals, the presenter said two additional positions are proposed in the road department so crews can safely flag traffic and operate patching crews. "You need 4 or 5 people just to operate that," the presenter said, arguing that the department is short‑staffed and currently down four employees.
